Redcar and Cleveland College
Redcar and Cleveland College is a new state-of-the-art building which has transformed the students’ learning experience, providing industry standard vocational facilities which support employer relations and give individuals the skills they need to kick start their career.
At the focal ‘heart’ of the building is a large, naturally-lit central atrium, with dining areas, social spaces, and an internet café. Leading off from the atrium are three floors of teaching classrooms, which radiate outwards as ‘wings’, and fully-equipped learning resource centre with quiet study areas.
Special facilities include: a comprehensively-equipped Sports Hall designed to ‘Sports England’ standards; training and assessment rooms for the accreditation of students in national plumbing and gas-fitting qualifications; and professional-quality hair salons and beauty treatment rooms, providing training and work experience to students in commercial environments.
The design integrates an aesthetically pleasing space with sustainable features, which exceed current building standards, to increase energy efficiency and reduce CO2 emissions.
