Mid Kent College - Medway Campus

Mid Kent College is one of Kent’s largest providers of further education and vocational learning. Nightingale Associates has been working with the College to realise its vision of replacing its life-expired Horsted and City Way Centres with first class facilities at its new Medway Campus.

Our team first translated the college brief back in 2005, when we delivered an inspiring masterplan. This plan did not only meet the pedagogical aspirations of Mid Kent College, but carefully considered the ‘dock yard’ traditions of the new college’s location in Gillingham, Kent. The £56 million development provides an increase in capacity of almost 30% - allowing the college to respond to a rise in demand for popular courses.

The new college site is adjacent to MoD land, in front of a scheduled ancient monument and within a conservation area, which has required careful negotiation with local planners. The design involves three, five storey teaching blocks radiating from an interlinked street. The glazed partitions and courtyards between the blocks boast green roofs that allow views onto the campus’ beautiful grounds.
