IBI THiNK
Our design philosophy is underpinned by research-led design through the work of IBI THiNK. Taking a holistic approach, we work with industry partners, research institutions and building users to highlight the important link between research and practice. Through gathered evidence and experience, design solutions and theories are tested to improve the quality, efficiency and sustainability of the built environment.
Healthcare
A specialist team, dedicated to providing an incisive perspective on design, procurement and planning issues, is making our voice heard at Department of Health and other policy-making forums. Consequently, IBI Nightingale brings its customers informed responses to the latest developments within health service.
Research and participation in new mental health projects has led to design innovations on many of our projects, providing benefits for customers in many sectors. Other areas in which our innovations have led the field include environmental design, quality control and planning for future flexibility.
Science
Due to our research led design approach to science buildings, we are continually engaged in conversation with research scientists and other experts in relevant fields. Not only are we at the forefront of knowledge, we contribute to the development of the industry’s understanding of the most pertinent issues through our own research and articles.
Currently we are researching sustainability and energy efficiency in complex building types including hospitals and laboratories
Education
Our mission is to create learning environments that are contemporary, flexible, inspirational and equipped with the latest technology to support inclusion and participation. To keep pace with technology and an ever-changing curriculum, we hold workshops with our educationalists and technologists to predict future trends and to understand the needs of learners and teachers.
We are also researching and developing design tools and guidance based on the way the body perceives and responds to sensory stimuli. Initially, this work focused on healing environments, but more recently, as interest has grown in the relationship between the learning environment and its potential effect on achievement, engagement, motivation, behaviour and sense of well-being, we have extended this work to include education projects.
