David Rowley
David is an architect, and Director of Design Research and Innovation at Nightingale Associates. David has had a varied architectural career covering a range of sectors; mental health care, hospitals, offices, housing, education and retail.
David has a keen interest in improving the environmental conditions and sustainability of buildings and has an MSc in Environmental design and engineering. He has been part of steering groups to produce the NHS Environmental Assessment Tool (NEAT), and recently its replacement BREEAM healthcare, and encourages practice improvements in this area.
As part of his role as Director of Design Research and Innovation he has produced office guidance to help improve design standards in the practice and been helping to put the practice at the forefront of current thinking. He has been influencing improvements in government regulations and Department of Health Guidance on topics such as disability, acoustics and sustainability.
David is on the Department of Health Design Review Panel. He has been an advisor on a number of PFI projects. He has a wide experience in Development Control Plans, which put forward future proposals for whole sites and provides a good opportunity for some holistic thinking on issues such as sustainability.
