Steven Bentley
Steven is a Director at Gifford UK, based in their Manchester Offices. He attended Bath University and obtained a degree in Building Engineering via the renowned building and architecture course, where his tutors included Max Fordham and Ted Happold.
Steven joined Gifford as a graduate in their head office in Southampton, before working for a number of engineering consultancies in the Manchester region. Steven was approached by Gifford in 2002 to start up their Manchester Office, which has developed in the last 7 years to around 50 staff. The office comprises a broad range of engineering disciplines including building structural engineers, building services engineers, transportation planners, archaeologists and geo-technical engineers.
Steven is a Chartered Building Services Engineer with a specialism in low energy/low carbon building design. Steven was project engineer for one of the first BREEAM Excellent rated buildings in the UK, a building for the National Westminster Bank completed in 1994. He is an accredited low carbon consultant.
Steven leads the building services teams in Gifford’s Chester, Manchester and Leeds Offices and has been actively involved in a number of low and zero carbon buildings including:-
- A walkers centre for the National Trust (nominated as the UK’s most Sustainable Small Building in 2006).
- A biomass heated commercial office building in Barnsley (winner of the Ashden Award for Sustainable Energy in 2006)
- A zero carbon learning resource centre for the Royal Horticultural Society (aiming for the highest BREEAM score awarded for a new building)
Steven regularly conducts seminars and training workshops for fellow industry professionals.
