Nigel Banks
Nigel is an Associate Director of Building Engineering at AECOM. He started work in the company’s Applied Research group but moved to and now leads one of the Advanced Design groups, a specialist team with specific expertise in building physics, sustainability and low energy design.
He is currently involved in projects in a wide variety of sectors and international locations as well as providing technical leadership to a number of UK research projects.
Nigel specialises in bringing forward the latest research and building solutions into practical low energy, passive design and an integrated use of low and zero carbon technologies to meet the challenging sustainability standards of the future.
Research projects of note include investigating the UK government’s zero carbon construction polices as well as working on some of the UK’s first commercial buildings and larger mixed use developments aiming to achieve net zero carbon emissions in practice. Nigel has also picked up the CIBSE “Low Carbon New Build Project of the Year” award the last two years for the University of Northumbria’s City Campus East and for DEFRA’s new net-zero carbon offices.
