Debating schools of the future

24 June 2008

Nightingale Associates spurred a healthy debate on the future of school design last week, when a small group of experts in the fields of education, design and IT gathered at our offices in Newman Street for an afternoon of ‘topical discussion’.

As education architects under the BSF regime, we were keen to explore the linkages between the future of IT and the built environment which supports it.

This thought-leadership exercise explored several key issues which will ultimately influence the way we design schools in coming years. Topics included: the introduction of wireless technology, virtual learning environments, biometrics, handheld computers and blended learning.

Our discussions were fuelled by a visit to the Nightingale Associates designed ‘Fashion Retail Academy’ in the heart of London. An IT-centric building, this was an excellent opportunity for our guests to see how technology and architecture can work together to create an inspiring learning environment.
