Nightingale Associates’ revolutionary redevelopment at Liverpool’s Broadgreen Hospital and the Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital has been officially opened by Secretary of State for Health, Alan Johnson.
The £84 million project has improved and totally transformed the environment at both hospitals, and has enabled the Trusts to focus entirely on their objective of providing top quality planned care.
“I have seen lots of hospitals and this is an incredible facility, equal or better than anything you will find in the private or public sector. It has a real wow factor”.
Alan Johnson, Secretary of State for Health
The project provides the Royal Liverpool & Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust with a new Treatment Centre aimed at providing a quicker, more responsive service to patients. Nightingale Associates has made this vision a reality by providing a new Orthopaedic Centre including Out-Patient and Therapies treatment facilities, new wards, a Urology Centre, Day Surgery Unit and Operating Department including a state of the art ‘Barn’ Operating Theatre. The ’Barn’ Theatre was designed using innovative clean air technology, which reduces infection rates amongst patients.
Services at the Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital were also expanded and improved through the provision of a 40 bed Critical Care Area, 28 bed Acute Ward and enlarged Operating Department providing two additional theatres and a nine bed Theatre Recovery Area. The Critical Care Centre is one of the largest of its kind in Europe.
“We are fortunate to have had the opportunity to carry out a number of projects for the Trusts over the last 15 years and are particularly delighted to have played such a crucial role in the development of services to patients through the Broadgreen redevelopment. It was a fantastic opportunity for us and very rewarding for this to be recognised by the Secretary of State for Health.”
