RIBA praises Fashion Retail Academy

01 May 2008

The Nightingale designed Fashion Retail Academy has been recognised at the RIBA and Learning and Skills Council Awards, achieving ‘highly commended’ for design excellence.

Valued at £4.9 million, this stunning retro-fit of a 1960’s building has set a benchmark for refurbishment in the Further Education Sector. Highly popular with young fashionistas, the Academy provides a trendy, inspirational learning environment in the heart of central London.

Karen Dennison the Head of the Academy spoke at the RIBA conference.  She highlighted how the architectural design has provided a series of adaptable spaces allowing for alterations against trends in teaching and industry. Since its opening in 2006, the Academy has benefited from the flexible nature of the building, adjusting the space to accommodate a new mock retail unit and merchandise/purchasing office.  This has not only improved the College’s service to its students, but helped to bridge the gap between the classroom and a professional, working environment.
