The Times supports Treehouse

19 December 2007

This year’s Times Christmas Appeal is raising money for TreeHouse national charity for autism education.

The monies raised will be put towards a groundbreaking National Training Centre which is being delivered by Nightingale Associates’ London office.

The TreeHouse charity launched its specialist school in 1997 which went on to pioneer the use of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) in its teaching.  Its efforts are essential in helping school aged children diagnosed with autism prepare for an independent life.

The Nightingale team is currently delivering a brand new centre for learning which will enable the charity to deliver its unique service nationwide.  This project looks to provide an environment which will assist specialist teachers in unlocking the potential of autistic children.

The scheme has provided an opportunity for our education designers to build on their work with specialist schools and develop environments that have a positive influence on the way in which a young person develops an understanding of social behaviour, communicates and learns.  Nightingale Associates has investigated ‘responsive design’ in the education environment through applying the correct use of colour, texture, light and sound to stimulate the positive behaviour of the pupils.

The completion of the TreeHouse training centre depends on fundraising.  To support this worthwhile cause or to find out more about the charity, please visit the Times website.
