National Star College given Planning Permission
03 July 2007
The redevelopment of a leading national specialist college has been granted planning permission from Cotswold District Council.
As an independent college catering for students with physical disabilities, the National Star College is set to become an exemplary facility for the education of students with different levels of physical disabilities, associated learning difficulties, care and support needs.
Designed by Nightingale Associates, the £15 million project will feature the erection of new educational, therapy and residential buildings, the creation of a new energy and waste management compound.
As the development is taking place in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty care is being taken to ensure the development is sympathetic within its setting through the design of low lying buildings, careful choice of colours and improvements to the landscape through the introduction of hedgerows, trees and boundary planting.
“The redevelopment programme for the National Star College is a great opportunity to be involved in a remarkable facility and it's a project that will benefit not only the students attending the college, but also members of the local community.”
Bernard Doyle, Senior Director, Nightingale Associates
All the new buildings will be designed with energy conservation and efficiency in mind. The layouts, section and orientation have been arranged to maximise environmental benefits and consideration of shelter, natural light and passive solar gain wherever possible.
