New Liverpool office opens
11 November 2004
Architects Nightingale Associates have strengthened their presence in the north west of England with the acquisition of Liverpool-based architectural practice Derek Hicks and Thew, announced on November 11.
This increases the total number of architects from 135 to 165, making Nightingale Associates the third largest architectural firm in the country. Thirty per cent of the firm’s total workforce is now based in the north. With 15 staff in the firm’s existing Rochdale office, numbers see a sharp boost to 65.
“The creation of a Liverpool office will position Nightingales very well to take advantage of regeneration opportunities presented by the city's status as 2008 European City of Culture.”
Mike Nightingale, Chairman, Nightingale Associates
The mix of skills in the new acquisition complements Nightingale’s core specialities: 40 per cent of the new office’s work is health, much of this in the field of community health, with two large LIFT projects with consortium leaders Eric Wright. Thirty per cent is education, mainly schools; the remaining 30 per cent is in housing regeneration, ecclesiastical and commercial work.
The new office will be headed by Graham Thew, as managing director, with two executive directors: Derek Hicks and Adrian Swain.
