25 July 2003

Earlier today, the Queen arrived in Denmark Hill to officially open the new Golden Jubilee Wing at King's College Hospital.

The visit was almost 90 years to the day since the Queen's grandfather, King George V, officially opened the hospital on 26th July 1913.The Queen spoke to staff and patients as she visited the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Lonsdale Ward, and the Upper Limb Therapies Room and Gym.

The Golden Jubilee Wing was built with the aim of housing all women's services under one roof. The state of the art building also contains specially designed outpatients’ departments as well as several medical and surgical wards.
