Hospice wins conservation award

16 October 2003

Architects Nightingale Associates, have won an award from Oxford Preservation Society for Sir Michael Sobell House Hospice.

The practice was commended for the contribution it has made to the preservation and enhancement of Oxford's heritage.

Nightingale Associates previously received an award from the Society for its work on Jigsaw's retail premises in the High Street. Sir Michael Sobell House, opened in January, provides state-of-the-art facilities for 21 patients and their relatives. 12 beds are en suite, and all have pull out beds for relatives to stay the night. All open out on to landscaped patios. High glazed roofs and wide walkways offer space and light in abundance, with internal spaces which the judges considered 'stunning'.

The £3.7m building was designed by Nightingale's Harwell office. Project architects were Yolande Wyer and Cristina Tegolo.
