02 December 2002

The £330m Coventry New Hospitals project achieved financial close last week, on November 28. This is the largest PFI hospital in the country to reach this stage and the only major PFI to be signed this year.

Lead designers on the project are Nightingale Associates. The practice is part of the Skanska Innisfree Consortium which won preferred bidder status on November 9 2001.

Work has already started on site, with final completion of the entire project due in 2006. The new teaching hospital will provide 1200 beds and comprises an acute hospital, clinical sciences building and a new 130-bed mental health facility. First to be completed is the clinical sciences building which must be ready by October 2003.

The director in charge of the project at Nightingale Associates is Richard Harrington. Project leader is John Temple. The project is being managed by the practice's Harwell office. The other consultants involved with the consortium are Ove Arup and Troup Bywater and Anders.
