Peterborough Hospitals PFI
Nightingale Associates was appointed by preferred bidder, Progress Health, to design the city’s new City Care Centre, Mental Health Unit and Acute Hospital.
This PFI project, one of the largest for the NHS to date, consists of an 800-bed Acute Hospital and a 98-bed Mental Health Unit both on one site, and a 40-bed Integrated Care Centre in the city centre.
Our proposal for a total new build solution was a major departure from PSC scheme, and provided the optimum solution in terms of clinical functionality and the relationship of both the Acute Hospital, and Mental Health Unit to the entrance and the site masterplan. Our masterplan was based on a campus approach, around a green landscaped square created when the existing hospital will be demolished, which separated public and visitor/traffic from Services and Ambulance access and designing a Women’s and Children’s Hospital in its own entity.
The Mental Health Unit and City Care Centre are now open, with the Acute Hospital due to follow in 2012.
